Dr. Mustafa Macit Karagözoğlu is an assistant professor in the hadith department of Marmara University’s Faculty of Theology, Istanbul and was a visiting researcher at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding of Georgetown University during the 2015-2016 academic year. He received his PhD from Marmara University with an analysis of the classical Arabic literature on weak hadith transmitters (duʻafā). He published several articles, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews, as well as translating and editing works related to his field of study, including the recent “Şīa’nın Hadis Anlayışı Üzerine İncelemeler [Investigations on the Shii Understanding of Hadith], Istanbul: 2015.” He taught courses on Islamic studies in Europe, and the hadith literature and criticism. His academic interests include textual criticism, anthropology of Islam, hadith methodology, and muslim historiography. He is fluent in English and Arabic, and has elementary knowledge of Spanish and Persian.
Dr. Karagözoğlu was a visiting researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2009-2010.
