The current COVID-19 crisis has required that Georgetown University, like many other institutions and organizations, move all its activities online. Our teaching and research continue, but we are not able to host the many scholarly events for which the Center has become well known.
We have therefore decided to relaunch our series of Occasional Papers by eminent scholars on topics of current interest, which were published in hard copy from 1994 through 2008. PDF files of the earlier series are available on this site under “Research,” along with the new series which will be published electronically and available to the general public.
We are delighted to begin the new series with “Being Religious Interreligiously and Being Honestly Pluralstically Religious” by John Borelli. Dr. Borelli is Special Assistant for Catholic Identity and Dialogue to President DeGioia of Georgetown University. He is also a 2020 recipient of ACMCU’s Building Bridges Lifetime Achievement Award for the promotion of religious pluralism and human rights. Dr. Borelli’s paper was delivered at ACMCU’s March 5, 2020 panel on “The Challenge of Pluralism in the 21st Century,” where he was joined by ACMCU Founding Director John L. Esposito, Asma Afsaruddin of Indiana University in Bloomington, Fr. Thomas Michel of Xavier Learning Center in Thailand, and HRH Prince Zeid bin Raad al-Hussein, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (2014-2018) and co-recipient of ACMCU’s 2020 Building Bridges Lifetime Achievement Award.
Our hearts go out to all who are struggling with COVID-19, their families and friends. We hope the profound message of human solidarity expressed by Dr. Borelli, which captures the spirit in which ACMCU was founded, proves uplifting and encouraging in this period of global trauma.
