Title: What Was Hamas Thinking?

Dr. Tareq Baconi and Dr. Nader Hashemi at Georgetown University

What Was Hamas Thinking

ACMCU, CCAS, and The African Studies Program of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service welcomed Dr. Tareq Baconi from Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network to give a lecture on the War in Gaza and glean insight into what may have informed Hamas’s decision to carry out it’s shocking and violent attack against Israel on October 7th of 2023. In his lecture, Dr. Baconi placed the events of the 7th within a broader historical and political evolution of the movement and struggle of the occupied Palestinian people. Baconi situated Hamas as a key constituent in the Palestinian struggle for self-determination, and analyzed the movementโ€™s rationale and strategic objectives behind the attack.
