March 20th, 2019 – Dr. Liz Bucar, Associate Professor of Religion and Dean’s Leadership Fellow at Northeastern University, spoke at ACMCU on the role of the aesthetics in Islamic fashion and performative citizenship. This talk focused on the U.S. context of the topic.
Dr. Liz Bucar is Associate Professor of Religion and Dean’s Leadership Fellow at Northeastern University in Boston. She is author of five books including the award-winning Pious Fashion: How Muslim Women Dress (Harvard University Press, 2017) and currently completing a book manuscript on religious appropriation. Professor Bucar writes, teaches, and tweets (@BucarLiz) about gender, sexuality, and the politics in everyday religious practice. She has written for popular media outlets such as The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Times, and Teen Vogue.
